Presenting BESS colocation study results in Berlin

November 5, 2025, the European Ukrainian Energy Agency (EUEA) hosted the 16th European Ukrainian Energy Day in Berlin, Germany. This annual leading conference serves as a major platform for dialogue among Ukrainian, European, and international stakeholders, addressing critical issues shaping the development of energy efficiency (EE) and renewable energy (RE) sectors in Ukraine. Discussions were framed within the context of the EU Association Agreement, the Paris Climate Accord, and the EU Green Deal, underscoring Ukraine’s strategic role in Europe’s energy transition.

Bernt Granås, our CEO, participated as a speaker in the panel “Energy Storage – Unlocking Flexibility and Reliability,” moderated by Alina Sviderska (Scatec Ukraine). The discussion examined the strategic role of energy storage in Ukraine’s energy transition, focusing on how storage technologies can integrate and balance variable renewable energy sources, enhance grid stability, and meet capacity requirements.

In his remarks, Bernt Granås highlighted the importance of co-located storage with wind and solar assets to ensure system flexibility and reliability. He shared insights from Fenix Repower’s ongoing initiatives, emphasizing how storage can deliver ancillary services, mitigate intermittency, and enable Ukraine to achieve its decarbonization objectives while maintaining grid resilience.

As part of this commitment, Fenix Repower, with financial support from NORAD, has developed a comprehensive co-location assessment: Wind Meets Storage. This study provides an overview of technical, economic, and regulatory considerations for deploying battery storage alongside wind power projects in Ukraine. In Berlin Bernt presented the key learnings from the study which can be seen in the presentation below.
